You recently stayed at a youth hostel during a school trip and were not satisfied with the experience. Write a letter of complaint to the hostel manager explaining the problems and suggesting improvements.
Letter of Complaint about Youth Hostel Stay
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with my recent stay at your youth hostel during a school trip from 10th to 12th June.
Firstly, the room I was assigned to was not clean. The bedsheets appeared used, and the bathroom had not been cleaned properly. In addition, there was no hot water in the showers on either morning.
Secondly, the meals provided were below standard. Several students complained that the food was cold and lacked variety. We were also not informed in advance that vegetarian options had to be requested separately.
I would appreciate it if you could review the cleaning procedures and ensure that all rooms are checked before new guests arrive. Furthermore, I suggest improving meal quality and offering clearer information about dietary requirements when bookings are made.
I hope you take this feedback seriously, as your hostel has great potential and is well located.
Yours faithfully,

You have seen an advertisement for a summer job in an English-speaking country helping in a children’s summer camp. Write a formal letter applying for the position, explaining why you are interested and why you would be a good candidate.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I would be particularly interested in this opportunity because I hope to study education in the future, and I believe this job would offer valuable experience. In addition, I enjoy sports, games and creative activities, which I understand are part of the camp programme.
I believe I would be a suitable candidate because I have previously volunteered at a local youth centre, where I helped organise activities for children aged 6 to 12. I am also responsible, enthusiastic, and work well in a team.

Your local council is planning to build a new community centre. You have been invited to send suggestions about what activities or services it should offer. Write a formal letter making your suggestions and explaining why they would be useful.
Suggestions for New Community Centre Facilities
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to offer some suggestions regarding the new community centre that the council is planning to build in our area.
Firstly, I would like to recommend the inclusion of a study room or quiet area where students can do homework or prepare for exams. Many young people do not have a suitable environment for studying at home.
Secondly, a multipurpose hall for sports and group activities would benefit both teenagers and adults. It could be used for yoga, fitness classes, or even dance workshops.
In addition, it might be helpful to provide free internet access and a small café, so that the centre becomes a welcoming place for people of all ages.
I strongly believe that these suggestions would help create an inclusive space that supports education, health and social connection.
Thank you for giving residents the opportunity to contribute ideas.
I look forward to seeing this project become a reality.
Yours faithfully,
Daniel Herrera

You have just completed a one-week language course organised by a school in another city. Write a formal letter to the course coordinator thanking them for the experience and mentioning what you enjoyed and what could be improved.
Letter of Thanks after Language Course
Dear Ms Bennett,
I am writing to thank you and your team for the excellent language course I attended last week at your school in Brighton. It was a valuable and enjoyable experience, and I am very grateful for the opportunity.
I particularly appreciated the small class size and friendly atmosphere. The teachers were professional and encouraging, and the lessons were both practical and fun. I also enjoyed the afternoon conversation clubs, which gave me the chance to speak with students from different countries.
If I may offer a small suggestion, I think the cultural activities could be improved by providing more options in the evenings, especially for students staying in host families.
Overall, I feel that I improved my speaking and listening skills significantly during the week, and I would definitely recommend your programme to others.
Thank you again for a wonderful experience.
Yours sincerely,

Request for Leave of Absence
Dear Ms Taylor,
I am writing to request permission to be absent from class for a few days due to a personal matter that requires me to return to my country temporarily.
